Poland’s sports minister has called on Poles to boycott Tesla products and not buy their electric cars. This happened after the company’s owner Elon Musk said that \u201ctoo much attention is paid to the past,\u201d apparently alluding to the crimes of the Nazis in Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was reported<\/a> by Bloomberg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What did Elon Musk say?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another scandal with the American billionaire occurred when he spoke via video link at a political rally of the German far-right party Alternative for Germany, which he strongly supports. Speaking about the country’s past, he emphasized that “children are not responsible for the sins of their parents, let alone their great-grandparents.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What was the reaction to Musk’s words in Poland and Germany?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reaction to Musk’s words in Germany was sharp and immediate. The ruling Social Democrat party and the country’s largest labor union immediately responded to his words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Musk’s words also resonated in Poland, as they were celebrating the 90th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp, where about 6 million Poles died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, the Polish Minister of Sports noted that Musk and his billions may not feel threatened. But every normal European remembers what happened 80 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“All I can say,” the official said,” is that probably no normal Pole should buy Tesla anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bloomberg notes that the call for a boycott of Tesla products “coincided” with the presentation of a new government plan to encourage Poles to buy electric vehicles. The project offers subsidies of 40,000 zlotys (almost $100,000) for individual car purchases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the record, according to the statistics of electric vehicle sales in Poland, Tesla was the most popular local brand last year. Over the year, Poles purchased more than 4,400 of these cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
